DARK BLACK WATER

The world is changing at a very fast pace. The future now seems like the presence of this very day, and the element of the theatre, we are living in, finally brought an understanding that nothing is promised and guaranteed. It allowed us to develop fresh perspectives, new ideas, take time for ourselves and broaden imagination. But this new shape of the future also made some things seem very dark and drowning. New age has proven to dictate its own rules and we just have to learn a new way to play against it.

The photograph series of the ‘Dark Black Water’ envision a woman in her inner surroundings. The images speak about the concept of possibility of the new beginnings and the acceptance of the change. Her arms held together close to the body provide comfort and hope, whereas dark black water envisions the world that is now forcing us to accept a different version of reality. She is there by herself. Her look is longing for freedom. Beautiful but sadistic? The nature of life proves to challenge. We have to learn to carry ourselves trough anything. The characters we play surrounded by others vanish and we are left to embrace of what truly define us. What is it that we want to be? Are we the same people we were from the beginning?

The ‘Dark Black Water’ is a tribute to modern revival and a force to grow. It envisions the time of self-discovery, development of new skills, optimistic attitude and gratitude for everything that is already given. There are so many amazing memories and nice times to be missed, but the truth is, we only grow in adversity. So be it. In this world longing for lost, lets aim for greater opportunities. Every single one of us can be a part of a better world. And if not, we can definitely try. On the other hand, one thing is certain, the future is now and it’s challenging us in the ways we never could have predicted.

Photographed before the first lockdown, these photo series seem more relevant now than ever. Self-isolation forced many of us to find new meanings in life and taught to cherish simple things even more. The quality of life changed, but the spirit of togetherness grew. Slow walks in the park, phone calls to loved ones, quality time with the family, and for most, just a long and authentic road of finding new meanings in this forced reality, meant undeniable change. A time to be a little bit away from all the outside noise worked in the favour for those, who wanted to listen. Listen to the voice of change, a need for personal development, encouragement to love and dream more, and be a bit better and braver every single day. There still is a plenty of fun to be had and plenty of dreams to be achieved. But for now, try and enjoy a weird feeling of comfort just being alone. It is quite fulfilling.
